CONCERN
Acne scarring. Considered, gradual improvement over time.
Acne scarring is a concern that brings many clients to Plumerian Aesthetics, often after years of feeling that nothing has worked. The first thing we want to say honestly. Not every type of acne scarring responds to the same approach, and outcomes are gradual. At Plumerian Aesthetics in Bentleigh, AHPRA registered cosmetic nurse Melia offers considered treatments that support the skin natural regeneration over a course of sessions. Realistic expectations matter to us. We will tell you honestly what we think your skin can achieve.

What causes this concern
Acne scarring takes several forms. Atrophic scars are indentations where tissue was lost during the inflammation of acne. Hypertrophic and keloid scars are raised areas of extra tissue. Post inflammatory pigmentation is the dark or red marks left after acne resolves. Each type responds differently. Atrophic scarring, the most common type, often responds well to treatments that support skin regeneration. Pigmentation is usually addressed with skincare and time rather than in clinic procedures. Honest assessment at consultation identifies the type and the right approach.
How we can help
At Plumerian Aesthetics, depending on the type and severity of your scarring, considered options include:
- Skin Needling: medical microneedling that supports natural skin regeneration. One of the most commonly used approaches for atrophic acne scarring, typically a course of 3 to 6 sessions
- Polynucleotide Skin Therapy: a regenerative approach that supports skin quality from within. Sometimes used in combination with skin needling for scarring concerns
- Platelet Skin Therapy: using components from your own blood to support skin regeneration, often combined with skin needling for improved outcomes
- Skin Bio-Remodelling: supporting overall skin quality, often used in combination with the above approaches

What to expect
Acne scarring improvement is gradual, not immediate. Most clients see meaningful progress over a course of 3 to 6 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, sometimes more. The aim is real but realistic improvement. We will be honest about what we think is achievable for your specific scarring. Some scars improve significantly. Some improve partially. Some respond minimally. Consultation includes a thorough assessment so you can make an informed choice about whether to proceed.
Frequently asked questions
Will my acne scars go away completely?
Honest answer. Often not completely. We work toward meaningful, visible improvement rather than complete erasure. Many clients achieve outcomes they are very happy with. We will tell you at consultation what we realistically think your skin can achieve.
How many treatments will I need?
Most clients see meaningful improvement after 3 to 6 treatments, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. More extensive scarring may benefit from additional sessions. Specific recommendations depend on your skin and how it responds.
Is there downtime?
Mild redness on the day of treatment is normal and typically settles within 24 to 48 hours. Most clients return to normal activities the day after, with some skincare adjustments. Aftercare guidance is provided.
What about active acne?
We typically do not treat scarring when active inflammatory acne is present. Addressing active acne with appropriate skincare and medical care first is important. We can discuss your specific situation at consultation.
Will I look worse before I look better?
Some redness or temporary roughness after treatment is normal as the skin regenerates. Visible improvement develops gradually over weeks to months following each session.
Are some scars treatable and others not?
Yes. Ice pick scars, which are deep and narrow, are the most challenging type. Rolling and boxcar scars often respond more readily. Hypertrophic and keloid scars need different approaches. We assess at consultation.
